Step UP Theatre is a teen theatre company designed to bring original theatre to elementary school students throughout our community. Step UP is a completely youth-driven company; all teens involved have a hand in the writing, design, fundraising, performance, and overall creation of our first season together. Step UP Theatre has two components: (1) The performance troupe, comprised of 12 teenagers from various San Diego high schools, and (2) our Associate Youth Artists, a smaller group of teens on board to help oversee and manage the season's work.

Step UP Theatre was founded under the belief that as teenagers, we can do MORE! MORE than what is expected, MORE for our community, and MORE for the little ones who will be our successors!

Step UP is MENTORING. Our audiences have "big kids" to look up to!

Step UP is PREVENTION. We address issues that can be stopped before they start; we've been there too!

Step UP is ART. We give our audiences an early and necessary exposure to the performing arts!

Cast members of Step UP Theatre are committed to being role models both on AND off stage. We communicate online to share writing, ideas and questions, before rehearsing twice a week. Step UP Theatre creates theatre for young audiences (K-5) based on some of the following topics: diversity, language, family, friendship, respect, and community.
